The act of safeguarding germplasm in IITA Genetic Resources center (GRC) had always been put first to prevent loss of Accession from any natural occurrences that might cause loss of germplasm. To keep the core mandate of conservation in the in vitro room where plant are conserve outside its own natural habitat using in vitro techniques. IITA Genebank introduced a technology of “ANTIMICROBIA FLOORING”. This flooring mechanism work on the principle that any bacteria or fungi that come in contact with the floor is rendered inactive and sterilized to avoid the growth and spread of the bacteria in the conservation room. Despite the hygienic nature of the flooring, it also offer the advantage of retarding the degradation of the floor by microorganism.
To enhance adequate supply of resources for germplasm health status maintainability, the in vitro introduces “AUTO CLAVE”, a laboratory equipment for sterilizing other sub laboratory equipment to prevent contamination with microorganism. The auto clave work on the principle of utilizing high temperature and pressure to destroy microorganism that could contaminate germplasm under conservation. An added technology is the introduction of “GLASS WASHING MACHINE” that automate the manual washing of glass to prevent damage and contamination of the glass wall with contaminants. order your plantlet and seeds by clicking on this: http://my.iita.org/accession2/
